Biography
Geneviève Élisabeth Disdéri was a pioneering French photographer of the 19th century. As a woman working in the relatively new and male-dominated field of photography, she made significant contributions to the development of photographic practice and helped establish photography as a legitimate artistic medium.
Disdéri's work and her presence in the photographic community represented an important chapter in the history of women in art and technology. She was laid to rest in Cimetière parisien d'Ivry, remembered as a trailblazer in the early history of photography.
