Biography

George Bird Grinnell, born in 1849, devoted his life to exploring the western plains and chronicling the lives of the wildlife and Native communities he admired.

As a writer and advocate for conservation he helped secure protections for the country’s wild places and shared a reverence for nature with generations who visit his grave at Woodlawn Cemetery.
