Biography
George Bruce Cortelyou served the nation in a succession of cabinet posts, including leadership of the newly formed Department of Commerce and Labor, the Post Office, and the Treasury. He brought calm efficiency to each office, guiding them through times of growth and change at the turn of the twentieth century.
His ability to steady complex institutions earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of citizens, and his remains lie in the Memorial Cemetery of St. John's Church.
