Biography

George Canning was a dazzling writer and statesman whose literary gifts infused his speeches with wit and clarity, guiding him from the world of letters into the highest offices of government. As Foreign Secretary and briefly Prime Minister, he championed the cause of national independence in the Americas and defended liberal principles abroad.
