Biography

George Charles Boldt Sr. built an international reputation as the hotelier behind the Waldorf and later the Astoria, raising the bar for hospitality in New York with service that became synonymous with elegance. Immigrating from Prussia, he brought an entrepreneurial spirit to the hospitality industry, shaping operations that ran some of the most celebrated hotels of the Gilded Age.

He also commissioned Boldt Castle as a monument to love and supported charities that sustained the city he served, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and exceeding expectation that endures among the monuments of Woodlawn Cemetery.
