Biography

George Crowninshield Jr. was a merchant and shipowner who played an important role in the maritime commerce of his era. Born in 1766, he came of age during the Revolutionary period and built his career in the shipping industry during the early years of American independence.

Crowninshield Jr. passed away in 1817 and was buried in Howard Street Burial Ground. His work in maritime trade reflected the commercial enterprise and seafaring traditions that were vital to the development of early American prosperity.
