Biography
George M. Brooks, born in 1824 in Medford, Massachusetts, practiced law with a steady hand and entered public life as a Republican during the Reconstruction era. He served in the state legislature and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, lending his voice to the debates that shaped the nation after the Civil War.
After serving in Congress he returned to private practice, remained active in civic affairs, and was regarded as a judicious counselor until his death in 1893; he now rests at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery among many of his contemporaries.
