John Hudson Hall (d. 1894) was a highly successful paper manufacturer and visionary developer who played a significant role in shaping New York's infrastructure. His business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond manufacturing into the emerging field of urban transportation.

Hall commissioned the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to create his funerary monument, reflecting both his prominence in society and his appreciation for fine art.
