Biography
George Owen Squier was a West Point graduate whose lifelong fascination with electricity and communication led him to transform the U.S. Army Signal Corps, bringing telegraph and radio technology into effective wartime use. He pioneered multiplex telephony and promoted the peaceful application of wireless technology, laying foundations for both military and civilian communication systems.
As a senior officer he advocated for scientific training, attention to morale, and cooperation with civilian industry, continuing to influence the field after retirement through writings and public service; he is interred at Arlington National Cemetery among the leaders who advanced the nation’s readiness.
