Biography
George Robert Armstrong (1819-1896) led Omaha for several years as mayor, tending carefully to the needs of a city in rapid transition. He wrestled with the practical demands of infrastructure, public safety, and keeping commerce flowing in a frontier environment.
After stepping down from office, Armstrong remained invested in the community, supporting the many civic projects that followed him. His remains rest at Prospect Hill Cemetery among other leaders of Omaha's formative era.
