Biography
George Tucker, born in 1775, devoted himself to the study of law and political economy, eventually joining the faculty of the University of Virginia to teach history, law, and related subjects for many decades.
He authored essays and books that tried to bridge classical learning with the young American republic, offering reflections on banking, rights, and governance that kept him engaged in civic life until his passing in 1861; his grave remains at the University of Virginia Cemetery.
