George W. De Long

Biography

George W. De Long was a naval officer and explorer whose courage propelled him into the Arctic in pursuit of discovery, revealing both the promise and peril of polar exploration. His dedication to duty and the quest for knowledge furthered America’s understanding of remote frontiers and inspired sailors and explorers who followed.

He now rests at Woodlawn Cemetery, commemorated for the bravery that marked his life and the enduring spirit of exploration he embodied.
