U.S. Representative
Biography
George Washington Kipp brought the perspective of rural Pennsylvania to Congress, pressing for fair treatment of timber and mining communities while seeking improved road and postal service. He believed government should be attentive to small hamlets as well as large cities, tempering big plans with local knowledge.
Back home he was remembered for his gracious demeanor, his steady support of veterans' relief, and the way he welcomed farmers and laborers into the discussion about shared prosperity, and his resting place at Oak Hill Cemetery draws friends who remember the good humor with which he met every concern.
