Biography
George Wood Wingate dedicated his life to civic responsibility, co-founding the National Rifle Association to improve training for citizen-soldiers and to advance safety and marksmanship. As a former officer in the New York National Guard, he promoted physical education and readiness, believing disciplined practice strengthened both character and community.
He also supported the expansion of public recreation and educational opportunities, leaving a legacy of disciplined service that is honored at Friends Quaker Cemetery.
