Gerrit Kleisen
1917–1944 (age 27)
Biography
Gerrit Kleisen was born in 1917 and served as a customs officer even as the world around him descended into repression. He used his official role as a means to protect people and to quietly gather information that could help his fellow citizens.
While maintaining his duties, Kleisen contributed to underground efforts, guiding escape routes and sharing intelligence. His activities brought danger, and in 1944 he was executed; his place of rest is the Dutch Honorary Cemetery Bloemendaal, where his example of quiet courage endures.
