Biography
Green Berry Raum left a successful law practice to raise and command Illinois volunteer regiments during the Civil War, earning recognition for leading troops in the Mississippi Valley before being brevetted brigadier general.
After the war he served as a congressman, Commissioner of Internal Revenue, and champion of soldiers’ causes, dedicating himself to veterans’ welfare before his final repose at Arlington National Cemetery.
