Harry Lane

Biography

Dr. Harry Lane, a physician before entering public life, served as mayor of Portland and later as United States senator from Oregon, championing public health, the direct election of senators, and opposition to imperialist ventures.

He maintained an independent voice in Washington, caring more for principle than party, and his efforts to bring reform and compassion to governance are honored at Lone Fir Cemetery.
