Hazel Abel was a Nebraska educator and legislator who became one of the first women to serve in the United States Senate, bringing thoughtful, practical judgment to public service during her brief tenure.

She remained a steadfast advocate for civic responsibility and education, leaving the respect of colleagues and citizens alike; she rests at Wyuka Cemetery.
