Biography
Heinrich Louis d'Arrest was a distinguished astronomer whose precise observations and tireless search for faint objects advanced the understanding of the heavens in the 19th century. Having contributed crucially to the discovery of Neptune and the identification of numerous comets and nebulae, he skillfully combined rigorous measurement with a generous spirit of cooperation among European observatories.
In his later years he shared his experience with students and colleagues, helping to elevate Copenhagen as a center for stellar cartography and positional astronomy. His grave in Assistens Cemetery honors a legacy grounded in celestial curiosity and the pursuit of clearer skies for all observers.
