Henry Boynton Clitz devoted decades to the United States Navy, serving on numerous vessels and commanding squadrons with a steady hand during the Civil War and the years that followed.

Upon retiring to the Kansas City area he shared seamanship lessons with young officers, supported veteran causes, and remained a dignified advocate for those who served at sea.
