Biography

Henry L. Eustis, born in 1819, was a graduate of West Point who served with distinction as an army engineer, taught at Harvard, and contributed to the nation's coastal and riverine defenses through careful surveys and instruction.

He died in 1885, and peers remembered him for merging military discipline with an engineer's attention to detail.
