Henry M. Jackson (1912–1983), the long-serving senator from Washington State, championed a strong national defense and progressive environmental policies while remaining rooted in the needs of his constituents. He sought thoughtful compromise and brought a practical, sincere voice to every debate.
He carried the nickname “Scoop” with good humor, fostering bipartisanship and trust at home and abroad, and now rests in Evergreen Cemetery.
