Henry Warner Birge

Biography

Henry Warner Birge (1825-1888) led Connecticut troops with courage during the Civil War, rising to the rank of brigadier general and bringing calm resolve to challenging campaigns. After the conflict, he returned home to continue nurturing civic life in his native state.

His memory lies in Yantic Cemetery, where friends and family honor the leadership and compassion he brought to both military service and civilian duty.
