Biography
Hermanus Pieter Cornelis Zanen was born in 1893 and came of age in a rapidly changing Netherlands. He pursued a life rooted in community and civic responsibility, ultimately channeling his energies into the secret networks that opposed the Nazi occupation in The Hague.
As a resistance fighter he devoted himself to aiding those in danger, coordinating efforts to shelter fugitives and disrupt the occupier's plans. He died in 1943 and is remembered at Westduin General Cemetery as a steadfast guardian of Dutch freedom.
