Horace Binney Sargent

Biography

Horace Binney Sargent, born in 1821, lived long enough to witness great change, dedicating himself to both military service and ensuing community life in Santa Barbara. He believed in duty and persisted in bringing people together after the turbulence of war.

In retirement he championed development projects and supported veterans, demonstrating that gratitude could direct the energies of even an aging statesman. His passing in 1908 marked the end of a life spent building bridges between disparate generations.
