Isham G. Harris

Biography

Isham G. Harris guided Tennessee through the defining crises of the mid-19th century as governor and later lent his experience to the national stage as a United States senator.

Throughout the turbulence of war and its aftermath he strove to reconcile divided loyalties, uphold the dignity of the office he held, and promote healing across the state he loved.
