J. Hale Sypher

Biography

J. Hale Sypher (1837–1905) answered the call to serve as an officer in the Union Army and afterward carried that commitment into public life as a Congressman from Louisiana during Reconstruction, working to restore stability and fairness to the region.

He continued to strive for national unity in his later years, and his contributions are remembered at Arlington National Cemetery.
