Biography

J. Hartwell Hillman Sr., born in 1841, carried a spirit of perseverance and thoughtful leadership through the latter half of the 19th century, ever attentive to the needs of his neighbors and the community that depended upon one another. Teamwork and gentle guidance defined the way he approached life.

He passed away in 1911 and is buried in Homewood Cemetery, where visitors still reflect upon the grace he brought to everyday moments and the quiet legacy he left behind.
