Biography

Jacob Shatzky, born in 1893, devoted his life to chronicling the lives and resilience of Eastern European Jewry, producing careful historical works that preserved communities uprooted by war and migration. He combined rigorous scholarship with a deep personal commitment to ensuring that the voices of immigrant families were honored and understood.

Jacob also shared his knowledge with students and fellow researchers, and when he passed in 1956 he was laid to rest at Mount Neboh Cemetery, leaving behind a vital record of Jewish life in the Old World and the New.
