Biography
Jacob Whitman Bailey was a prominent naturalist and educator whose scholarly contributions shaped American scientific education in the nineteenth century. His expertise in natural history and dedication to teaching influenced generations of students at West Point, where he spent much of his career.
Bailey's legacy as both a researcher and mentor is preserved in the annals of American science. He was interred at West Point Cemetery, reflecting his long association with the military academy where he advanced the study of natural philosophy from 1811 until his death in 1857.
