Jacques Augustin Galiffe

Biography

Jacques Augustin Galiffe (1776–1853) was a Swiss writer and historian who contributed significantly to the intellectual life of his era. Born in Geneva, he engaged with the literary and historical traditions of Switzerland and Europe, producing works that demonstrated scholarly rigor and cultural insight. His career spanned the revolutionary and post-revolutionary periods, during which he maintained his commitment to learning and literary expression.

Galiffe was known for his contributions to historical documentation and his efforts to preserve and interpret the cultural heritage of his region. His works reflected the intellectual sophistication of the Swiss Enlightenment tradition. He spent his final years in Florence, a city long associated with learning and the arts, and was buried in the English Cemetery there, a fitting resting place for a man of letters and international standing.
