James Irving Manatt

Biography

James Irving Manatt, a Providence resident of the mid-nineteenth century, lived through the challenges that shaped a nation in transition. Though records of his occupation are scarce, he shared in the communal life of his time and was remembered by neighbors and family as a steady presence through the upheavals of Reconstruction and the Gilded Age.

He was laid to rest among friends and loved ones at Swan Point Cemetery, his memory preserved by those who knew and respected him for the quiet consistency of his character.
