James Witherell

Biography

James Witherell trained in the law and turned a sense of justice into public service, representing Vermont in the United States Congress and serving on the Vermont bench before moving westward.

His later years in the Michigan Territory were devoted to shaping its legal institutions, and he is remembered at Elmwood Cemetery for guiding the frontier toward order and fair government.
