Biography

Jesse J. Finley, born in 1812, became a prominent lawyer and planter after moving to Florida, serving in the legislature and as a circuit judge before representing the state in the U.S. House of Representatives where he defended regional interests and the rule of law.

He spent his later years mentoring young lawyers and assisting civic institutions in Jacksonville, leaving behind a record of steady public service and resting at Evergreen Cemetery.
