Jim Laker (1922–1986) became one of England’s finest off-spinners, his precision and guile culminating in 1956 at Old Trafford where he took a record-breaking 19 wickets in a single Test match.
After retiring from the international game he remained devoted to cricket, sharing his knowledge as a coach and writer while advocating for the artistry of spin bowling.
