John B. Weller

Biography

John B. Weller (1812–1875) served as a lawyer, congressman, U.S. senator, and governor of California, tackling the demands of public service with determination and a desire to uphold democratic ideals. He navigated the complex politics of a developing state while striving to represent both new arrivals and established residents.

When he passed in 1875 friends recalled a statesman who understood the weight of his responsibilities, and those who visit Girod Street Cemetery continue to honor a life devoted to civic duty.
