Biography
John Cyril Porte, born in 1884, was a pioneering aviator and naval officer whose inventive spirit helped transform marine aviation, playing a leading role in the development of the Felixstowe flying boats.
His collaborations with the Royal Navy and seaplane designers before and during the Great War advanced scholarship on air power over water, and after a life of innovation he succumbed to illness in 1919 and was buried at West Norwood Cemetery.
