Biography
John Doby Kennedy (1840–1896) was a figure of the postbellum South whose early studies led him to a commission in the Confederate cavalry. His leadership during the Civil War earned him respect for steadiness under pressure, and he returned home determined to heal divisions by encouraging a disciplined professional approach to public life.
