Biography

John Irvin Gregg (1826–1892) rose through the cavalry ranks, earning distinction for his leadership of mobile troops in key campaigns across the eastern theaters of the Civil War. His ability to coordinate fast-moving forces under trying circumstances helped secure vital victories for the Union Army.

After the war he continued to serve the country in various capacities, leaving behind a reputation for courage and steadiness that lives on at his Arlington National Cemetery gravesite.
