Biography
John McNeil commanded Union forces in Missouri with a steady hand, playing a key role in repelling raids and maintaining order during the turbulent years of the Civil War in the border state.
When peace returned he resumed his legal pursuits and quietly supported charitable efforts, allowing Bellefontaine Cemetery to become the dignified resting place for a man who had defended his state with courage.
