Biography

Robert S. Brookings (1850–1932) was a prominent businessman and philanthropist whose vision shaped American intellectual life. After building a successful business career, he dedicated his later years to establishing institutions of learning and research.

In 1916, Brookings founded the Institute for Government Research, which evolved into the Brookings Institution, one of the nation's most influential think tanks. His generous donations to Washington University in St. Louis reflected his deep commitment to education and public service.
