Biography
Henry Miller Shreve came into the world in 1785 and became known as a riverboat captain and engineer who helped transform navigation on the Mississippi and its tributaries, improving travel and commerce for many communities.
He was laid to rest at Bellefontaine Cemetery in 1851, where his pioneering work on the waterways continues to inspire appreciation for those whose ingenuity shaped the nation’s rivers.
