Biography
Don Carlos Buell (1818–1898) was a career officer in the United States Army who played a significant role during the Civil War. A graduate of West Point, he rose to prominence as a major general commanding Union forces in the Western Theater.
Buell led the Army of the Ohio at the Battle of Shiloh in 1862 and commanded Union forces at the Battle of Perryville in Kentucky later that year. Though his military career was marked by both achievement and controversy, he remained a notable figure in American military history. After the war, he pursued various civilian endeavors until his death.
