Biography
John Miller served as a militia officer in the War of 1812 before becoming a civic leader in the new state of Missouri, later occupying the governor's office from 1825 to 1832 and guiding the young state through early challenges.
He championed infrastructure, public education, and the rule of law as Missouri matured, and the Bellefontaine hillside where he lies keeps alive the memory of the disciplined soldier who taught the republic's ideals to a frontier state.
