Biography

John Minto IV was born in 1822 and became one of Oregon’s most respected pioneers, offering leadership in farming, civic affairs, and the defense of the Willamette Valley as settlers worked to build a peaceful future. His tireless advocacy for orderly government reflected his belief in the promise of the Pacific Northwest.

He found deep satisfaction in watching the community grow around Salem Pioneer Cemetery, where he now rests. His commitment to public service and the land he loved continues to be remembered by those who visit him there.
