John Pitcairn, Jr.

Biography

John Pitcairn, Jr., born in 1841, turned inventive energy into industrial leadership with the founding of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company and remained deeply committed to the spiritual life of Bryn Athyn. He believed that prosperity could grow alongside generous philanthropy, contributing to church life and educational institutions that reflected his convictions.

Alongside his business achievements, he nurtured communities of learning and faith, encouraging others to wit the same convictions, and he now rests peacefully in Bryn Athyn Cemetery.
