Biography
John Torrey Morse combined his legal training with a passion for letters, editing encyclopedias and writing biographies—most notably of Chief Justice John Marshall—that became standard references for generations of readers.
He also nurtured historical scholarship through the American Men of Letters series and supported educational institutions, ending his days near the scholarly environs of Mount Auburn Cemetery.
