Biography

John Van Buren was a member of the prominent Van Buren family of New York, whose influence extended throughout the state and nation. Born in 1810, he was the son of President Martin Van Buren and inherited both the family name and the expectations of political and social prominence that accompanied it.

Van Buren's life reflected the experiences of those born into America's political elite during the nineteenth century. He was interred at Albany Rural Cemetery, a burial ground that served as the final resting place for many of New York's most distinguished citizens.
