Biography

Thomas W. Olcott was a leading figure in Albany's financial life, presiding over the Mechanics' and Farmers' Bank of Albany for many decades and guiding the institution through the economic growth of the early republic. He combined a sense of civic duty with his responsibilities as a banker, participating in public affairs and lending his steadiness to the capital region.

A lifelong resident of the capital region, he took pleasure in supporting charitable efforts and made his home near the Hudson, ultimately joining the community of the Albany Rural Cemetery, where he rests among the leaders of his era.
