Biography
John William Polidori (1795–1821) was an English writer and physician whose brief but remarkable life left an indelible mark on English literature. Born in 1795, Polidori is best remembered as the author of "The Vampyre," a pioneering work of vampire fiction that helped establish the literary tradition of the vampire tale in English letters.
Despite his youth, Polidori's creative talents were exceptional, and his contributions to Gothic and fantastic literature continue to be celebrated. His life was marked by both intellectual achievement and personal struggle, ending tragically in 1821. He was interred at St Pancras Old Church in Camden, where his memory endures among the notable figures of Romantic-era literature.
